Dear teachers,
This communication is to invite you to participate in the Moonlight University with a focus on implementing Language Dives. Currently, Language Dives are embedded with the EL Language Arts curriculum in grades 3-8th grade. We know that some teachers are interested in doing Language Dives in other content areas, support will be provided to help teachers write their own Language Dives.
Presenters. The training will be provided by a cohort of teachers, the same teachers that did the training on August 13. These teachers will receive support from Kevin Jepson; EL Coach.
Compensation. Teachers will be compensated at the negotiated hourly rate.
Participation/Commitments. We encourage teachers to register as teams, grade-level or departments as a way of supporting each other. Participating teachers will engage in small cycles of inquiry by:

Setting goals ( teacher and student goals)

Collecting data, samples of student growth

Analyzing the evidence

Planning for the next instructional steps
Learning Walks will be done in classrooms of participating teachers for the purpose of informing the supports and professional development to help teachers become more proficient in doing Language Dives with their students.
Outcomes. The goal of this Moonlight University with a focus on Language Dives is to create a community of learners who are learning with and from each other. Creating a place where teachers will fail and learn while trying to provide access to complex text for all their students by engaging them in a discourse where students are deconstructing, reconstructing and practicing complex text.
